Council Failing Newport MarketCity News, Page of Shame
A Trail of Talk - But No real Action!
Newport Conservatives wish to remind the residents of Newport of the FACTS:
July 2014 - Cllr Gail Giles, then Cabinet Member for Human Resources and Assets, said “We want to ensure the new organisation (Norse) offered a range of benefits including greater stability for employees, FLEXIBILITY IN RESPONDING TO LOCAL PRIORITIES, streamlined management and a more commercial culture.”
May 2014 - Under criticism over rents, a spokeswoman for Newport City Council said: “The council offers a wide variety of unit sizes and corresponding prices, inclusive service charges, together with flexible lease length terms.”
January 2017 - Cllr Debbie Wilcox, Newport Council Leader said “We are working with our partners Newport Norse, who manage the market, to promote and support our local independent traders as we want our traditional market to grow and flourish”.
February 2018 - More criticism of rents. A Newport City Council spokeswoman said, “Newport Norse, in partnership with the Council, manages the market and is responsible for the letting of stalls. We want Newport Market to be a success and we are working with Norse and the market traders on a strategy to encourage more people to shop there.”
February 2018 - Cllr Debbie Wilcox, Newport Council Leader said "The market has been identified as a key priority for consideration with the draft city centre masterplan currently out for consultation, demonstrating the Council’s long term commitment to this important building and its businesses.”

It's really quite simple when you analyse the FACTS .... the Labour led Newport City Council are failing the people of Newport and diminishing their responsibility by outsourcing day-to-day management of Council assets to third parties.
