Bring Back Free ParkingCity News, Page of Shame
Matthew Evans is leading the charge for the return of two hours ‘FREE PARKING’ in Newport. Matthew delivered free parking to Newport when he was Leader of the Council and wants it to be reintroduced. But with Labour representing Newport at every level, nobody is keeping them in check.
Matthew wants more to be done to help Newport’s high streets and ease traffic. Free parking wouldn’t just help the city centre it would also benefit high streets and residents across the city. That’s why Matthew is calling for two hours free parking to be implemented Newport-wide, making it cheaper and easier for shoppers to visit Newport. Parking charges often force people to find parking on residential streets, adding to traffic and congestion and takes up crucial parking for residents.
Offering free parking to visitors would increase foot traffic to the city centre and high streets across Newport. As the Conservative Candidate for MP in Newport West, Matthew said
“One of the first things Labour did after regaining control of the council in 2012, was to scrap the free parking in Newport, but have since failed to invest that money back into improving our city. We need to find a way to boost the local economy and bring in some positive change to Newport. That’s why I am campaigning to bring back free parking. It worked when I was Leader of the Council and it will work again. We need to take action and support our local shops and businesses. The combination of free parking and lowering business rates is a tried and tested formula. It would provide a real boost and generate more income in the longer term."
ONLY THE CONSERVATIVES WILL DELIVER FREE PARKING!
