The former British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson M.P. and one of the final Conservative Party Leadership contenders has been elected as the new Leader of the Conservative & Unionist Party and subsequently the new British Prime Minister.

Boris Johnson MP made an official visit to Newport today as part of the UK General Election Campaign back in 2017. Attending Newport Indoor Market to support the then Newport West Conservative Parliamentary Prospective Candidate Angela Jones-Evans, the then Foreign Secretary was given a very warm welcome by Newport shoppers and business owners inside the market.
Also present during the vist were David Davies MP for Monmouthshire, Mohammad Asghar AM for South East Wales, and Leader of Newport Conservatives and Opposition at Newport City Council - Cllr Matthew Evans.
The then Foreign Secretary spent some considerable time walking around Newport Indoor Market speaking with many business owners including AD Turner & Sons Butchers, and shaking hands with many shoppers and taking the time to chat with them. Boris also sat down for a cup of tea in one cafe in company with Angela Jones-Evans, taking to time to listen to the views of the business owners and regular patrons.
