Newport Conservatives - Petition
Reverse the Charges to use Kids Sports Pitches
This petition is asking for Councillor Debbie Harvey - Cabinet Member for Culture and Leisure, at Newport City Council, to reverse her decision to impose charges against using sports pitches by children across the city.
It is a known fact that sporting activity benefits the physical and mental well-being of our children, in addition to creating social integration.
Charging for the grass roots use of the sports pitches is a political move that impacts badly on our children and their parents who will have to pay.
We will see a reduction in the use of the cities sports pitches as a result of this measure, because parents will be unable to pay more on top of recently increased Council Tax. This will be to the detriment of our childrens' well-being and create a wilderness of empty sports pitches across the city.
We believe this decision is in contravention of the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act legislated by the Welsh Government in 2015.
In driving this petition, our first consideration is the mental and physical health of our children. Sport can play a big part in that.
